Residential

Take the time to unplug, connect, and invest in your artistic practice. When training at the Barn, students eat, sleep, and train with their cohort. Whether it’s late-night chats in the kitchen or late-night karaoke sessions in the theater, your time at the Barn is a chance to connect with artists from across the country and the world.

Outdoor Activities

A Barn tradition is having s’mores by the campfire at least once during your time here. We’ll provide firewood and s’mores ingredients for one fire during a workshop week. Wanting to have more than one campfire? Since we’re in Maine, firewood is available for purchase almost everywhere including Hannafords, Walmart, and various roadside stands.

Whether you’re an experienced or new outdoors person you can definitely dabble in some foraging during your time here. In the early months of our season from May-July red raspberry bushes can be found almost everywhere. In early August there are a few blackberry bushes that still bear fruit. In mid to late August we are reminded of how the Barn used to be an apple orchard and some of our apple trees continue to produce fruit!

Be sure to bring a bathing suit. The Barn is only a 15-minute drive from Lake Penneseewassee, a beautiful swimmable lake with beach access. Students with cars should definitely check it out between their workshop classes.

Student Testimonials

“I will remember the quiet, rolling in the grass, walk in the mud, swing in the hammock. Will also remember working late in the night because the space was always available”
